Post on Q Center Portland's Blog

I apologize for failing to regularly update this blog as of late.

Latest news: I was fortunate to be a part of the Queer Artists and Allies Spring Showcase at the Q Center in Portland last month, and received this very nice write-up in the organization's blog, written by Dave Mosier, who also curated the show: Click to Read!

I have been continuing the drag portraits, and now have six different stickers available for purchase in my etsy store.

I am in the process of organizing prints of the drag portraits to sell on my etsy store. They will be available in postcard and 11x18 sizes.

Thank you for reading!

Sticker batch #1 is here!

Here they are! Sticker#1 in my series, the incomparable Jinkx Monsoon! She recently launched a brand-new website, jinkxmonsoon.com, which I highly recommend checking out, as it's got some of her best pictures and videos.

Please be patient while we set up shop, but I will most definitely be updating on how to purchase these online when everything is ready.

Thesising

February finds me delving into my thesis work, as well as two independent studies. I'm floundering a little but I think that I've recently turned over a new leaf.

I'm doing a lot of absorbing right now- books, articles, images, poems. I'm filling a sketchbook with as many ideas as I can while continuing my research, and am beginning to turn some of my more successful ideas into more realized paintings and illustrations.

Slowly but surely, I think, everything will come together.
Stay tuned for progress.

Show!

("Michelle Bachman", gouache, 9"x12", 2011 © Amanda Russel)

School's been going as well as it can be. Besides constantly plugging along on my thesis so I can propose during the first week of December, I've been getting to do some fun stuff like this Michelle Bachmann portrait (an exercise in anthropomorphism for my Illustration Painting Techniques class.)

I have my first solo show coming up! I am very excited about it. It will be the evening (around seven, though the exact time is not yet nailed down) at Palio Dessert and Espresso House, 1996 SE Ladd in Portland. I will mostly be hanging new gouache pieces, but will also include some less recent, smaller ink pieces. Everything will be for sale, so come on by!

Classes and Finished "Daisies" Still

(© 2011 Amanda Russel)
(Untitled; 18"x24", gouache on canvas)
In other news, classes start tomorrow. I'm taking 13 credits this fall and then 6 in the spring, bringing my undergrad career and thesis year to a close.
